When Faster Isn't Better
/When we rush our work, we're making a trade.
A trade that looks reasonable on the surface—less time spent, more items checked off. But it doesn’t always work out.
Because rushing constricts our field of vision. And in that constriction, we make mistakes and miss insights. Our work becomes thinner. Less resonant. Less likely to create the change we seek to make.
And we feel it. The tension in our shoulders, the shallow breathing, the subtle anxiety that follows. Our bodies keeping the score of corners cut and possibilities abandoned.
The irony is that when we hurry, we don't feel more productive. Just relieved to be done.
There's a difference between being efficient and being rushed. One creates value. The other destroys it.
