A Human Condition

You had a system that was working. Then life threw something at you—a diagnosis, a loss, a project gone haywire. Suddenly you’re avoiding your inbox and finding excuses to ignore what needs to get done.

It can happen to anyone. It happens to the organized, the disciplined, the people who know better. It happens to me—someone trained to “be productive”.

Functioning isn't a permanent state; it's a human condition, and conditions change.

Every productivity hack assumes you're functioning. But what if you can't just "begin"? What if that feels like the thing that will break you?

Instead of asking "what should I do next?" ask "what can I actually do right now, in this body, in this moment?"

Be honest with yourself. You need to start smaller than you think is reasonable. A breath. A glass of water. Open the file. One reply sent. Not a plan—just the next true thing you can actually do.

That question will always give you something. It will always be smaller than your ambition, and it will always be enough to get you to the next step.
