Stop Planning Like You're A Superhero

Your best mood is your worst planner.

You wake up energized. You feel unstoppable. So you build a day for a superhero, with back-to-back meetings, ambitious goals, zero slack.

Then traffic happens. The meeting runs long. The "quick" task runs into tech issues and eats your afternoon.

Your plan collapses. You feel like a failure.

Realists build better schedules than optimists do. That's why I plan my next week on Friday afternoon, tired and unimpressed with myself, instead of Sunday night, fresh and delusional.

Start by trying this: Multiply every estimate by 1.5. A thirty-minute commute gets forty-five. A four-hour project gets six.

Pessimistic planning produces optimistic outcomes. Expect friction, and you move through your day with more room to breathe instead of white-knuckling another rollercoaster.
